Association Services
Education
The Association (BIASSMD) will be pleased to attend any size group to provide talks and to lead discussions in the hope that public awareness and education will reduce the number of brain injures experienced yearly in the Algoma District and reduce the impact of acquired brain injuries through prompt attention to the injury, family support and support for the survivor. The Association participates in other groups and Associations, which share related interests and missions to ensure the message about brain injuries is widely distributed. Members will speak on demand at schools, service clubs and public gatherings.
To arrange for a speaker please contact the Association through the contact page. There is a button below which will take you to the page.

Advocacy
BIASSMD will support you, the survivor or caregiver through the provision of advice and active participation in successfully gaining what you need from community and government agencies and organizations.
Referrals
The Association helps survivors and their Caregivers through the provision of referrals. Through the collective experience of the membership, awareness of the services available and who is best able to help, the Association can offer referrals to appropriate community agencies.
BIASSMD is not a stand alone organization in our efforts to provide the best advice and service. The Association frequently works with other agencies, such as the Ontario March of Dimes' local office, to refer you to counseling and/or other ABI opportunities that are available through them. Please check the Links page to see what other agencies or individuals we have contacts with who may of service to you.

Community Outreach
BIASSMD reaches out to the community to deliver education and support. It does not matter if the people in the community are involved in our Association or not. Although the outreach efforts are low key, the Association believes that a gentle approach, educating those who want to learn will in time cross over and into the consciousness of those who express little interest.
A Face Book page is an excellent example of that outreach effort. The Association Facebook page at Brain Injury Association of Sault Ste. Marie on Facebook is maintained by Chantal Scopacasa and provides a natural point of contact for many survivors.
